HEIRESS TO THE SEA
The squall rose from somewhere deep and angry. Tall black walls raced to meet the travel weary Alondra. The wind howled like a starved wolf on the hunt for naive prey. Mari would not be the seas feast tonight. She had not come to die in the cold Atlantic with a ships belly full of sapphires.
Ominous and heavy the gray clouds hung so close she could touch them if her hands were not lashed to the wheel.
Her shoulder jerked against the force of it. Mari pushed back with all the strength her innards could muster. She planted her feet firm on the pitching deck and stared down her menacing foe.
“You have been my sustenance and my salvation but you will not take my bones this night.” Mari screamed into the pelting wind that rebuked her challenge without mercy.
